Nevil Maskelyne (1732-1811) was a fellow of Trinity College Cambridge, a Fellow of the Royal Society, a member of the American Philosophical Society, and the fifth British Astronomer Royal. In this role he presided over the Longitude reward and became the first person to scientifically measure the Earth's mass.
