Based on the US AMS map of Iran for 1942, and revised with addition of information from "world aeronautical charts" from 1944-1951, and issued in the year that Iran nationalized their oil industry, a matter of great international interest, and internal unrest. Previously the oil industry in Iran, even though mostly run by private companies under foreign control, had been the source of considerable national income. However, nationalization proved to be an economic disaster for the country, certainly in the short to medium term. BP and ARAMCO reacted to nationalization by expanding their production in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq. Iran was unable to sell their oil internationally, and production decreased by 95%. By August 1953 the government had been overthrown by a military coup, largely orchestrated by British Intelligence and the CIA.

Rare: no examples of this first edition are known, a revised edition appeared in 1964.
