14.5 inch radius vernier sextant by Jesse Ramsden, constructed in brass, signed on the lower cross bar Ramsden London, scale divided to 130o direct to arc, vernier inscribed G. Vancouver, braced index arm, index mirror with Maskelyne flap, sighting tube, four shades, secondary mirror on rear-mounted adjusting lever, wooden handle and brass pin feet, lacking secondary mirror and part of sighting tube.

George Vancouver's sextant, most probably used by him during Captain Cook's second and third voyages.

George Vancouver (1757-98) was one of the great navigators and explorers of the eighteenth century.
